Introduction


I have taken the decision in future to move my full reviews of Hotels to this blog rather than a site I used to write on. 

I do comment on the good the bad and the ugly when it comes to hotels and I have stayed in some nice independant hotels and some dumps of a chain. 

Whilst I have stayed in some chains and some independant hotels but I try to review all of them in the same way, the only thing that may change is if I eat in the hotel or not.

I will also update on here if the hotel reached out to me after my review has been published

Travelodge - Finchley Central

  Yes it was new year so not wanting to cope with the main line trains from Euston late on I booked the night here so I could stay out later. As I was going to be in Soho for the new year do, I wanted a hotel near an underground station as I knew most lines would be running all night. The hotel is conveniently located a short (5 min at most) walk from Finchley central underground station which is on the Northern line so it has good connections to central London.   Arriving. One unusual thing here is that the reception and check in desk is on the 6 th floor so, thankfully via the lift, you need to go there first. This means the foyer area on the ground floor may attract non-guests to hang out in but I did not see anyone doing this. The reception area was clean and tidy, all be it a little small, but the check in was efficient and friendly. The bar/restaurant area was also on this floor and a short walk from the reception desk. Tottenham stadium stays – 18 Ashmount road, London.

  I was in London to attend a friend’s birthday and so I did not have to leave early to get the last train home I tried to find a hotel close by – or on the night tube. Most of the chain hotels were excessively expensive then found this place on Expedia and it was on the night tube and not overly expensive. The night cost me £118 (incl VAT). I did book via a cashback website, so I did get 8% of this back.   Arrival The place is a short walk from seven sisters’ underground station on the Victoria line, so it is on the night tube. Firstly, this is not exactly a hotel more a small studio bedsit in a house. Check in was contactless and you were asked to provide your mobile number so they could send you the instructions to check in about two hours before arrival. This came via WhatsApp so not sure how it would be sent if you don’t have this. Holiday Inn - Birmingham New Street

  I took a quick trip to Birmingham mainly to spend a few days away from London during the half term. As I am an IHG member I tend to use their hotels quite a bit. I booked a king suite room as this, at the time, was only £10 a night more than a standard room. For 4 nights I paid £499 but as I booked via a cashback website I got £20 back. The hotel is a very short walk from Birmingham New Street station.     Arrival and Check in The lobby area is large and clean with several staff members checking people in. This process was, when you got to the desk, quick and efficient. The person who checked me in was friendly and polite. I did need to ask him to repeat a couple of things as there was a group quite close by talking very loudly, despite being within 4 inches of each other, so could not hear him over them.
